NEW HORIZONS VA COMPILATION FROM LABEL STREET RITUAL
Street Ritual started the new year proper with their HORIZONS compilation featuring a concoction of deep and gritty dubstep, heavy halftime, drum & bass, and an expanding range of leftfield styles. To prepare us for what's coming from the underground in 2022, label director VEIL compiled 10 electrifying tracks for you to feast your ears upon. This fierce and exploratory VA showcases a whole slew of omnitempo bass gems, all of which you’re not going to want to sleep on.
Kicking off the compilation, “The Mood” by Digital Vagabond blends euphoric vocals, sonic sounds, and atmospheric bass that will have you creating ravishing visuals in your mind. Next, you’ll find yourself engulfed in dark, cavernous sounds and haunting basslines with Dalek One’s “The Outcome” followed by a hard-hitting, filthy track — “Proximal” — from Philly-based producer 5AM.
Shifting to a different mood, Duffrey delivers a grimey, bouncy song in “Flitz,” which incorporates glitchy, techy sound design layered over a complex yet smooth percussion line.
“Burn It Up” by XotiX is a free-form goliath track, transporting listeners into a world of echoey, hard-hitting sounds, while “TRANSMUTATE” by Jordnmoody X Ujuu delivers a wonky, wobbly track that will leave your face imprinted with a very nasty bass face. By the time you stumble upon “50 Shades Of Grime” by Dalfin & DWELM, you’ll be hit with tempo switch-ups keeping you on your toes.
Next up, label boss VEIL teams up with Dela Moon in “NYX” — a thumping bass blaster where listeners embark on a voyage through the familiar and surreal into the dark space beyond the frontiers of experimental sound system music.
Onto the ninth track, Denver artist, Thought Process blesses us with “Bounce,” which exhibits his energetic, buoyant signature sound. Last but most certainly not least, we have a deep, grungy masterwork that is “Tear Through Insides” by Verum, which will tear right through dancefloors.
HORIZONS VA offers 10 tracks spanning across many different genres of underground music. If this is how they’re starting the new year then we have so much to look forward to from Street Ritual in 2022!
